The Promise!

Posted in Law School, Spanish tagged , at 9:44 pm by sillylittlestudent

Today my mom said that she will take me to SPAIN when I finish law school!!  I think she is worried I won’t finish law school because of my new job.  She may think that I’ll get comfortable at my job and decide to quit law.

She really doesn’t have any reason to worry.  Still, this means a trip to Europe in less than 2 years!!  I’ve never been to Spain and now t his gives me even more incentive to REALLY learn Spanish.

Done Training

Posted in Exercise, Law School, Nursing, Spanish tagged , , , at 9:22 pm by sillylittlestudent

Graduated from training at the Company! Now I’m ready for some real work.

Today I asked if it would be alright to arrive at work early and they said that there would be plenty of opportunities for me to get overtime so don’t burn out now.  Despite the warning, I really want the money so I’m going to be pushing overtime as much as possible!

It has only been three days, but I’m really enjoying my hectic schedule.  I go to work all day, go to class in the evenings, go to the gym at night, and study into the wee hours.   Law school is keeping me REALLY busy, so I just might drown once nursing classes start next week!

Two Favorites

Posted in Nadal, Soccer, Spanish, World Cup 2010 tagged , , , at 5:38 am by sillylittlestudent

I am absolutely in LOVE with Rafa Nadal!  His amazing performance at Wimbledon this year made my summer!

When I first saw a leaked version of Shakira’s video “Gypsy” I about had a heart attack.  How can one man be so gorgeous?!  Amazing athlete, good person, incredible body… just wow!

I love Shakira too.  She is THE international star!  Shakira performed at the opening celebrations for the World Cup & I might even have a chance to see her in concert in October!  She is fun, talented, and has such an amazing voice!

I heard Rafa went to South Africa to watch Spain WIN the World Cup!! My boyfriend was THRILLED Spain scored in the 116′ :D  Espana Campeón!!  First Time EVER!

Spanish: Daily Word

Posted in Spanish tagged at 10:11 am by sillylittlestudent

I’ve signed up for a Spanish class at my local community college for Fall semester!  I’m really getting into this new language and there are SO many helpful sites online to help me prepare.

I stumbled upon a great site, http://www.studyspanish.com/dailyword, which I love it because it provides a new vocab word every day & uses it in a sentence!  I’ve decided to write them down and practice them while driving.  The radio plays the same 10 songs anyway, I might as well entertain myself with something useful!

The Reward

Posted in Exercise, Law School, Lose 10, Spanish tagged , at 9:00 am by sillylittlestudent

Sometimes I need a little push to reach my goals.  Everyone has their own desires that motivate them.  Mine are admittedly superficial, but they work:

  • MAC Florabundance Lipcolor – $14 + shipping
(If this isn’t available later, then MAC Nymphette Tinted Lipglass – $14)
  • MAC Hue Lipstick (I wanted 3N, but can’t find it!) – $14 + shipping

This is what I plan to purchase when I hit -5 lbs, finish 200 pages of my MPRE review, and learn the names of 20 body parts in Spanish.  I’ll have my boyfriend test me on the last one so I can’t get away with mumbling the words!

Learning Spanish: I am

Posted in Spanish tagged at 3:38 pm by sillylittlestudent

I am having so much fun learning a new language!  I’m seriously considering labeling everything in my apartment with stickies to learn their names.

Also, this past weekend I had a conversation with a woman who travelled all over the world because of her husband’s job.  While her favorite place to live was Turkey, we also talked about several Spanish speaking countries.  Each day, I am more tempted to go live in Costa Rica or Spain!

Continuing with the basics:   Estoy is found in every “I am…” sentence so it’s quite useful!

Estar (to be):

  • estoy
  • estas
  • esta
  • estamos
  • estais
  • estan

Como esta? – How are you?

Esta bien. – ok  (Although I think I hear most people just say bien)

Estoy ocupada – I am busy.

Estoy lista – I am ready.

La ventana esta abierta – The window is open.

Learning A Language: Spanish

Posted in Applying to Nursing School, Law School, Nursing, Spanish tagged , , at 3:06 pm by sillylittlestudent

I live in California, which has a growing Hispanic population.  I’ve realized that learning Spanish would be a huge asset for both law and nursing.  It may even help my application stand out for nursing programs and future job applications.

One of the first things I have learned is in order to learn Spanish, I need to learn basic grammar.  Grammar falls by the wayside after about 2nd grade in the United States.  I barely remember a thing, but that will have to change if I have any hope of constructing a proper sentence:

Seven Simple Tenses:

  • Present Indicative (I eat)
  • Imperfect Indicative (I was eating)
  • Preterit (I ate)
  • Future (I shall eat)
  • Conditional (I would eat)
  • Present Subjunctive (That I may eat)
  • Imperfect or Past Subjunctive (That I might eat)

A very useful verb to know is tener (to have):

  • tengo
  • tienes
  • tiene
  • tenemos
  • teneis
  • tienen

Tengo mucha hambre! – I am very hungry!

Cuantos anos tienes? – How old are you?

Que tienes? – What’s the matter?

And my favorite… Tengo que estudiar. – I have to study.
